![]() I'm going to keep reading and collecting this series because, as a titans megafan, it would be weird if i didn't, but wow, this was underwhelming, to say the very least. it's 200ish pages of teenagers who have the same names and kind of the same powers as the teen titans having shallow conversations to push along a narrative that doesn't even exist. ![]() slade is stalking them the entire time, and there's not even like, a big showdown or anything. nothing happens! no, literally, nothing happens. this is a filler novel if i ever saw one. ![]() On top of the poor characterizations, the pacing and plot in this is godawful. i love the little gremlin, but these characters are so obviously based on the lineup from the 2003 animated series (which is what all of gabriel picolo's fanart was of prior to this series being released, as well), so i can't fathom why they would choose to include damian instead of just having dick. actually, i don't understand why damian is here at all. it makes zero sense to me for dick and damian to be in the same age group. earlier in the series, i was annoyed that gar's parents were still alive, and that raven appears to have been raised on earth instead of by monks in a completely separate dimension (which is, like, a huge part of why she is the way she is). i know these characters are kind of loosely based on their namesakes, but some of the liberties taken are just egregious. This book, however, has made it very clear to me that this series is a mess. I think, in the previous installments, i was more willing to overlook a weak storyline and poor characterizations because i was just so excited to see two characters (not to mention a relationship) i had loved since i was a child come to fruition. it pains me to say that, because i love gabriel picolo's art, but yikes, y'all.
